Sissy bar

R2,000.00

Originally referred to as the sister bar, the sissy bar was born in early 1960’s USA when some states brought in laws mandating the use of a bar on the back of a street motorcycle when lifting a passenger for safety reasons. As was to be expected at the time, bikers were not a group that really concerned themselves with safety. Bikers started referring to the bars as “sissy” bars because they were not happy about having to comply with the new law, and obviously those that did, were sissy’s.

But, the sissy bar managed to stick around, and naturally the term stuck too and remains the common term used today. In chopper culture groups, the sissy bar has earned a few more colorful monikers such as the bitch bar, or the bitch stick. Ironically, the modern sissy bar allows little room on the back for a sissy, more commonly equipped today for aesthetic or luggage carrying purposes.
